Tuesday, October 24th, 2006 -Sean Flanagan has become quite an asset for Coach Chad Isaacson at Downers Grove North. Last year, as a sophomore, Sean played at the varsity level and hit in the clean up spot for the Trojans.
While his batting average was over .380 at the halfway point last season, Sean concluded the season with a .270 batting average. Seeing playing time primarily at the 3B corner and he also had a chance to get some innings on the mound as he pitched sparingly for the Trojans.
Looking towards a breakout junior year in 2007, Sean headed into the high school summer season full steam ahead. Finishing the summer season with a .410 batting average and .590 slugging percentage, Sean has quickly become one of the top junior prospects in state.
Coach Isaacson moved Sean to the Shortstop position and is expected to play there this upcoming spring. Determined to work harder on his skills, Sean also played on a summer travel team, the Downers Grove Longshots. Getting playing time at the middle infield positions and in the outfield, Sean finished the summer leading the team in home runs and total bases.
This fall, Sean’s hard work earned him the chance to participate in a couple of state top baseball showcases. The Cangelosi Elite 90 invited Sean to the league games and the showcase. From the outfield during the showcase, his arm was clocked as high as 95 mph (with full crow hop).
On the mound, he topped out at 87-88. Sean was one also one of the few juniors to be invited to participate in the Pitch & Hit Club’s showcase which had over 60 pro scouts and college coaches in attendance. In a pitcher-dominated game, he did a pretty good job at the plate with 2 Singles, 1 RBI and 1 Run Scored. He also made a couple of pretty good defensive plays, including a diving catch in center field.
